USS Grigsby
“You were right,
admiral. They’ve just come into sensor range. At least one squadron.
And there is some indication of a cloaked squadron as well. We have them
in a pincer, but they don’t seem to be slowing. They must be headed
for the Taal Tan system.” Commodore Hooper knew the information
would be invaluable. Now the Federation knew the target the Klingons were
aiming at. Taal Tan was the most efficient production facility this close
to Klingon space. Take it out and the Federation would have to spend month
shipping raw material to nearby worlds.
“They’re after the mining station…it’s
the only answer.” Admiral Sivtlan’s antenna leaned back against
his white hair. “I’ll coordinate with the outpost patrols
and see what we can pull back to the Taal Tan system. Meanwhile, focus
on damaging as many of their ships as you can.”
“Aye
sir. You really think they’d be foolish enough to mount a major
assault against this sector?”
Sivtlan was introspective for a moment. “Yes. I think
they would. There are only so many ships in this area…even with
re-enforcement on the way, we’d never be able to have sufficient
forces to keep all of the Klingon’s at bay. And even if Taal Tan
is their main focus, we can’t move too many ships from other patrols.
It’s just too risky. They timed this just right. Do what you have
to. Sivtlan out.”
The channel to the star base closed. “Well…let’s
get to it.”
